Stage director and choreographer Anna Theodosakis is a rising figure on the operatic scene, with critically acclaimed productions featuring “effective staging and inventive choreography” [Atuvu] and “clean and uncluttered direction” [Opera Canada]. The upcoming season sees Anna directing a new production of Come Closer for the Canadian Opera Company as well as returning to direct for Edmonton Opera (Barber of Seville), Manitoba Opera (Madama Butterfly), the University of Toronto Opera (Falstaff), and the University of British Columbia Opera (Bartered Bride).

 

Anna’s 25/26 season included her Opéra de Montréal  debut with a critically acclaimed Carmen, Tosca at Manitoba Opera, Rape of Lucretia at the University of Toronto Opera, and the Ensemble Studio's Barber of Seville at the Canadian Opera Company. She returned to Opera Theatre of Saint Louis as Resident Assistant Director and co-directed Centre Stage.

Since 2017, Anna has appeared as a frequent collaborator with the Canadian Opera Company, earning a nomination for the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Direction for her work as revival director on The Magic Flute (2022). Other credits include the COC’s Opera for Young Audiences WOW Factor: A Cinderella Story as many Ensemble Studio mainstage productions. A COC Ensemble Studio faculty member and dramatic coach, she has staged several RBA Concert Series performances.  

 

Anna has directed across Canada including Against the Grain Theatre, Saskatoon Opera, Brott Opera, The Banff Centre, Toronto Summer Music Festival, Parks Canada, Musique 3 Femmes  Manitoba Underground Opera, Muskoka Opera Festival, and Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra.

Passionate about working with emerging artists, Anna currently teaches acting and dance for the University of Toronto’s Opera Division. She served as a sessional lecturer in Theatre Techniques and Staging & Directing for the University of British Columbia. She has also been a sessional lecturer, guest instructor, and guest director with ten different universities.
